Agrobiodiversity Summer School 2022: Agrobiodiversity and the transition to agroecological food systems

The International Summer School is a collaboration between Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW)'s research group Geography of Food, the Swiss Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL), the University of Santiago de Compostela and research institutes in Slovenia and Hungary. 

In this International Summer School, various perspectives on agrobiodiversity and its contribution to the sustainability and resilience of food systems will be taught. In small groups of international students and experts, participants will have the chance to deeply investigate the opportunities and challenges of the existing local production systems and food supply chains and how they are connected to agrobiodiversity. Together with local stakeholders, students will develop strategies and solutions for addressing their challenges through different aspects of agrobiodiversity. In this program, each participant will also have the chance to improve his or her intercultural competencies to work in an international and interdisciplinary context.

The Agrobiodiversity Summer School consists of a preparatory phase and a 10-days study week. In the preparatory phase (April-August 2022) students will elaborate on a core aspect of agrobiodiversity and conduct a case study related to the local agrobiodiversity of their home country or place of study. The results of this phase will be reported in an online agrobiodiversity wiki and presented during the study week. In 2022, the 10-days study week will take place in Galicia, Spain from 31 August to 10 September. After successful completion of the course, students will be awarded 4 ECTS.

The deadline for submission of the application is 6 February 2022.
